Senate bill SF 543 failed to pass through the committee today in the Iowa Senate. This bill declares that life is valued and protected from the moment of conception and that each life is accorded the same rights under the state and federal constitutions and state law. With the Republicans holding a 29 - 20 majority in the Iowa Senate and with their highest priority plank calling for a law that would accomplish exactly what the bill states, this bill should have been a lock for becoming law.
The heartbreaking failure of this bill to pass through committee has caused quite a stir of emotions and frustration in social media among those in support of the bill. While disappointing, perhaps the results should not be all that surprising. We have all heard the definition of insanity as, "doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."
Periodically, voters hand the Republican Party majority control and are ultimately disappointed to not see the results they thought they were voting for. The devastating consequences of leaving Iowa's most helpless residents with no legal voice make this disappointment one of the most atrocious political betrayals of all time. Republicans are culpable for abortion in our land as it was a Republican appointed Supreme Court that made abortion 'the law' of the land. Republicans remain morally guilty as they have done nothing in the 44 years since that decision to right the wrong.
We are reminded once again that, "It is better to trust in the LORD than to put your confidence in man." (Psalm 118:8)
The Constitution Party of Iowa calls for all Iowans to cry out to God for mercy on the pre-born and for His Divine intervention on behalf of those who cannot help themselves.
